Create a campaign

Every field in the campaign editor, what shoppers actually see, and how to write a notification that gets clicked.

A campaign is a notification you write and send yourself — a drop, a sale, an announcement. Automations react to events; campaigns are the ones you decide.

The fields

Campaign title — this is both the internal name and the notification’s title. Most browsers show around 40 characters before truncating, so front-load the point.

Description — the notification body. One or two lines. Everything past about 120 characters is likely to be cut on a phone.

Campaign URL — where a click lands. Use a specific collection or product URL, never your homepage: a shopper who clicked a notification about one thing and gets dropped on your front page usually leaves.

Image — optional. Uploaded to your own Shopify Files. A wide product shot works here; a logo does not, because the small square icon already carries your brand.

Target audience — who receives it. See Scheduling and audience.

Campaign typeFlash or Regular. Flash is for short-lived, time-boxed sends; regular is the default for everything else.

Publish time — send now, or schedule it.

End date — optional, for time-limited campaigns.

What the shopper actually sees

Not everything you fill in. A notification is:

  • your small square icon (from Settings → default notification icon)
  • the title
  • one or two lines of body text
  • optionally your image
  • up to two buttons

There is no formatting, no links inside the text, and no way for the shopper to find the message again once it is dismissed. Write accordingly.

Writing one that gets clicked

Lead with the thing. “Autumn drop is live” beats “We have some news”.

Be specific. “14 new pieces” beats “lots of new arrivals”. A number the shopper can picture is worth more than an adjective.

Give one reason to tap now. Early access, limited quantity, a real deadline — something true.

Match the link to the promise. If the notification says autumn drop, the link goes to the autumn collection.

Frequency

There is no send cap in the app, so this is on you. Push is more intrusive than email and the punishment for over-sending is worse: a blocked shopper is gone for good, and nothing in the app can win them back.

A reasonable ceiling for most stores is two to four campaigns a month, on top of whatever the automations send. If in doubt, send less.

Before you hit send

  • The URL works and goes where the copy promised.
  • The title reads correctly truncated at ~40 characters.
  • Your default notification icon is set in Settings (otherwise browsers show a generic bell).
  • You are not about to duplicate an automation — do not campaign about a restock that back-in-stock already covers.
Menus are tucked away for bigger images — hover the edges to peek them, or Focus to pin. Click any image to zoom.
