Price-drop alerts

Telling shoppers when something they looked at gets cheaper — and when not to use this.

Last updated · Aug 5, 2026

Fires when: a product falls below the price a subscriber saw when they viewed it.

For shoppers whose hesitation was the price, this is the message that resolves it.

How it works

When a subscriber views a product, Qpushly stores the price at that moment. Shopify tells the app when the product changes; if the new price is lower than the price that shopper saw, they get the alert.

The comparison is per shopper, against what they saw — not against your compare-at price. Two people who viewed the same product at different prices can therefore get different treatment, which is the correct behaviour.

Set it up

Automations → Price Drop.

One reminder, short delay. Include both prices — the drop is the whole message, and a number they recognise makes it credible.

When not to use this

Price-drop alerts are the automation most likely to work against you. Two cases:

You discount often. If shoppers learn that waiting produces a notification with a lower number, you have trained them to wait. Full-price sales fall. If your calendar has a sale every month, leave this one off.

You are about to run a site-wide sale. A 30%-off weekend can fire a price-drop alert for every product every subscriber has ever viewed. There is no built-in cap on that.

Where it does work well

  • End-of-season markdowns on a handful of lines. Genuine, infrequent, and the people who viewed those items at full price are the right audience.
  • Stores that rarely discount. Here a price drop is real news.
  • Single-item promotions — one product, one alert, no blast.

Things to know

  • It needs the products permission, granted at install.
  • The comparison uses the price recorded at view time, so a shopper who viewed the product several times is compared against the most recent price they saw.
  • Like every automation, delivery waits for the ten-minute sweep.
